Meghan Markle’s half-brother was named a “person of interest” amid an ongoing probe into illegal activities involving their father, Thomas Markle Sr., according to authorities in the Philippines.

The country’s interior secretary, Juanito Victor Remulla, said at a press conference in Manila, “There are indications suggesting that the son may also be involved in the crime. But only as a person of interest so far, he is not yet treated as a suspect,” according to The Telegraph.

Remulla indicated that witnesses told police that underage girls had been brought to Thomas Jr.’s home in the Philippines. Thomas Jr., 60, told police he was “merely doing TikTok [videos],” Remulla said, per the outlet.

It was Thomas Jr. who reported his father, 82, to authorities after he claimed to have discovered child pornographic material at Thomas Sr.’s home in the Philippines.

Police in the Philippines alleged during a Nov. 3 press conference that child sex abuse images were found in Thomas Sr.’s home as they searched through computers, phones and storage devices located at the Cebu City home, according to The Times. Additionally, Mexican authorities reportedly raided Thomas Sr.’s former storage unit in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, over the weekend after The Daily Mail claimed to have found explicit photographs and magazines featuring young girls in the abandoned unit.

There are also child sexual abuse allegations against the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father.

Thomas Sr. — who recently moved from a rehabilitation facility in Florida, where he was being cared for after undergoing a leg amputation, to a care home for dementia patients in the same state, according to The Telegraph — previously acknowledged to the Mail on Sunday that he paid for sex with adult women in the Philippines, but he denied ever having sex with anyone under the age of 18 or possessing child sexual abuse material.

The Sun reported on Oct. 22 that Thomas Jr. had alerted the “cops” and FBI to his alleged discovery of “hundreds, if not thousands” of child pornographic images at Thomas Sr.’s home in the Philippines, where the father and son moved in early 2025. The next day, the outlet published a follow-up story claiming to have seen a copy of a letter sent to the Metropolitan Police that alleged Thomas Sr. had sexually abused a child and claimed that he had admitted to traveling to the Philippines and Thailand to abuse children. It later emerged that the letter was written by Thomas Sr.’s ex-wife Roslyn Loveless.

Meghan, 45, referenced a letter to police in her Oct. 23 statement shared with PEOPLE reacting to the allegations. She said the letter “made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”

The Duchess of Sussex, who has been estranged from her father since the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, said in her statement that she was “deeply distressed” by the accusations against her father and that her thoughts “are with any children who may have been harmed.”

“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason: to protect them,” the Duchess of Sussex continued. “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families. Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”

A friend of the Duchess of Sussex told PEOPLE on Oct. 26 that Meghan and Harry were receiving updates on the allegations against her father while on a family holiday during their children’s — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — school break last week.

“It’s been really difficult. She’s really cut up,” the friend said. “She has young children, and I think that, alongside the victims, is just weighing on her mind. It’s traumatic.”

There is also “a slight sense of relief that this is all coming out,” the friend added, expressing hope that “a proper investigation can take place.”
