Olivia Deanfreaked out when she discovered she was a clue onThe New York Timescrossword puzzle — and then she got the answer wrong.

Speaking withELLEfor the cover of the 2026 Women in Music Issue, she revealed her reaction when she noticed herself as one of the clues in the crossword puzzle.

"I threw my phone across the room," Dean, 27, said.

"I guessed wrong!" she added, laughing. "I bet it was R&B. I wouldn't really say that, guys, but okay, sure."

Earlier in the conversation, Dean opened up about her views on social media — and said she decided to wipe her phone of it entirely after the 2026 Grammys.

"I've been thinking about doing it for a while," the "Man I Need" singer said.

Dean added: "Even though the love has been overwhelming, even that is not healthy sometimes. I don't think you're supposed to know everyone's opinion about you. And I've decided I want to live in sweet ignorance."

At the 2026 Grammys, Dean took home the award for Best New Artist and burst into tears during her acceptance speech.

"I never really imagined that I would be up here, let alone nominated. So thank you so much. I just want to say that an artist is really nothing without their team. Emily, my best friend, my manager, we've been doing this for 10 years," she said. "So this is for you, too, my family."

Dean continued, "I guess I want to say I'm up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I wouldn't be here — I'm a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated. We're nothing without each other. Thank you so much."

At a private show in New York City in December, Deanopened up about her nominationand said she didn't anticipate it.

"It's definitely something in the back of your mind you think about," she said at the private show. "I'm not somebody that's super fueled by awards in that sense, but I think it's actually, when I got nominated, I was like, 'Oh no, this is really, really beautiful and such a way to be recognized.' I never thought it would happen for me."

Dean, who is set to kick off her world tour in April, also spoke toELLEabout her love for performing.

"That's where I feel the most confident and comfortable," she said of being on stage. "It's where what I've made can really breathe, and we can just play, and it feels fresh and exciting."
