Luke Grimeshas had a tough time with some of his Montana neighbors.
TheYellowstoneandMarshalsactor previously revealed that he and his wife, Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, left Hollywood to live in Montana full-time with their 17-month old son, Rigel. But unfortunately, nearly a decade of playing a Big Sky Country resident onscreen wasn't enough for Grimes to get in good with the locals.
"The valley that I live in, we had some people come visit us," Grimes told Joe Rogan during his Friday appearance onThe Joe Rogan Experiencepodcast."Our friends from California drove out, and we went on a hike, and we were in their car. And they had, you know, Cali plates."
He continued, "We get off the hike, and someone had written 'go back' in the dust on their car. Like, people are super weird about it. So I don't tell anyone exactly where I'm at because they would get really mad at me."
When Rogan pointed out that the popularity ofYellowstoneencouraged plenty of California types to make the move to Montana, Grimes agreed, adding that locals are "not happy about it."
The actor revealed that the tension is sometimes palpable in public spaces. "I can't go to bars there anymore," he said, "because whatever that one idiot is, is at that bar, and he can't wait to start a fight with me."
He continued, "Just, like, can't wait to do it because it's, like, a win-win for him, you know? He gets to sue me or something. I don't know, but it's a lose-lose for me."

Grimes pointed out that while he lived in Los Angeles for 16 years before making the big move, he isn't the first to relocate. Appealing to Montana locals, he argued that once upon a time, someone in their family was new to the area and deserved to be welcomed like they should welcome him and his family now. "Someone moved there at some point. Somewhere along the line someone moved there and all you did was stay," he said. "You didn't do anything that cool."
Despite his complex relationship with his neighbors, Grimes said life in Montana is still a step up from the nonstop bustle of Hollywood.
"I have no FOMO about anything anymore," he said. "I can just think and sleep and read and watch films, and it's the best."
